This is why legislative delegation is such a killer. Regulatory agencies should not make law - period. Legislators making laws are capable of being held to account for dumbfuckery, agencies are not.

Doubt this will pass. If all I can afford is an old, inexpensive car they can't force me to buy a fancy new car.

When in reality it's the diesel Jeepneys and two stroke tuks tuks, right?

I wish!

Also, we don't use tuk-tuks. The closest thing to one is the Piaggio Apé. I guess you meant the tricycles.

those imbeciles. and yet they keep the smoggy jeeps and tricycles on the road. something about being national symbols. well then, this means we're backwards. gah.

the philippine equivalent of tuk tuks are those tricycles. very few of them use the cleaner 4-stroke motorcycles, most of them 2-stroke ones.

oh, and add those public buses that we all should call squids, as they belch out really black smoke that gives you zero visibility when you're following them. blah.

I could go out, buy a 70's Cadillac Eldorado with the 500ci V8, daily drive it 18,000 miles a year for a decade, and it STILL would be better for the environment than building a brand-new Prius.

That's absolutely ridiculous especially when about 50% of the vehicles on the road over there are at least that old. that means every vehicle on my wife's side of the family would be illegal the newest car is a 1998.

Cars are already so hard for locals to buy and if they do buy a car they tend to keep it for a long LONG time.

Even tho the could put in a band like this I think that they would have a hard time and the people would protest.

Life is already difficult enough over there, why on earth would they try to make it even harder?

I know it's a pollution thing but still it makes no sense.

But politicians are lazy and also afraid of public/media backlash if doing their jobs inadvertently results in them making unpopular decisions. Much easier and safer to just let a bunch of faceless, nameless, bureaucrats the public can't find or contact handle things and just go hit the golf course.

So if this happen, everybody in your country should buy 2009 VW TDIs, just ot prove them wrong. :)
